Decorating Your Coop For Fall

Updated: Sep 27

Fall is absolutely my favorite time of year. Not only is it cozy and beautiful, but it’s also when we celebrate my wedding anniversary, my birthday and even Happy’s birthday—my favorite chicken!

Living in Minnesota means we get to experience all four seasons, and there’s something extra special about fall. The days get shorter, the mornings and nights get cooler and the colors are just spectacular.

Give me all the pumpkin spice and good book and I’m content!

Decorating for Fall: Indoors and Out

I love to go all out when it comes to fall decorating! Inside the house, I put up garlands, pumpkins, candles and wreaths. But why stop there? I didn’t want my chickens to miss out on the fun, so I decorated their coop too!

Decorating your chicken coop doesn’t have to be hard or expensive. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you want it to be. Plus, the best part is that the decorations double as treats for the flock when the season ends!

Simple Fall Decor Ideas for Your Chicken Coop

I like to keep it simple. For my chicken coop, I picked up some beautiful mums from the local farm supply store and reused my artificial fall wreaths from last season. It was quick, easy and gave the coop a festive fall makeover. And the best part? My pumpkins are grown right here, so when fall ends, they become a tasty pumpkin treat for the chickens!

Adding a pop of color with flowers like mums or pumpkins can make a big difference. You can even get creative and use hay bales or other fall-inspired items if pumpkins aren’t your thing. The key is to make it fun and personal to you!

My Best Advice: Decorate to Bring You Joy

I think the biggest mistake people make when it comes to decorating is feeling overwhelmed by trends or trying to follow too many rules. My advice? Do what brings you joy! If you’re not a fan of mums, don’t use them! If pumpkins aren’t your favorite, opt for something else like hay bales or corn shocks.

I’m planning to add some simple garland to my coop as well, and my husband will help me make some corn shocks to place around the side beams once the corn dries up a bit more. There are so many options, and it’s all about making the space feel cozy and festive.

Fall, Pumpkins and Chickens: What Could Be Better?

Before we know it, the snow will be here, but for now, I’m soaking up every bit of fall. I’ll be sitting here with my pumpkin spice latte, a good book and of course, snuggling with my chickens. Happy almost fall, everyone!

Until next time,
