Last week we celebrated Happy and my original 10 girls’ birthday! Yes. We had a party. These girls deserve to be celebrated! Birthdays have always been fun events in our home, and so naturally, my family wasn’t shocked when I told them about my party plans. At this point, we’ve moved past weird and gone right into crazy when it comes to our feathered friends!
Along with this crazy, came a homemade birthday “cake”. You know what I love the most about this cake? I know EXACTLY what I’m giving my girls. There’s no hidden ingredients and they absolutely LOVED it!
Healthy Chicken Birthday Cake Recipe
If you want to treat your flock to something special, here’s the recipe for a nutritious and fun chicken birthday cake!
Dry Ingredients
3 cups scratch grains
1 cup flax seeds (I used ground and it worked fine)
½ cup flour
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup dried meal worms
½ cup chia seeds
A couple shakes of cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
¾ cup blackstrap molasses
½ cup coconut oil
4-5 eggs (crush the shells and throw them in there too)
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F.
Prepare your cake pan: You can use a loaf pan, but for more fun, I used a round cake pan lined with parchment paper.
Mix the dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture and stir until well combined.
Press the cake batter into the prepared pan.
Bake for 45 minutes until the cake is set.
Let the cake cool in the pan for about 30 minutes to ensure it holds together.
A Cake Even Humans Would Want to Try... Almost!
I have to tell you, the cake smelled so delicious while it was baking! If it weren’t for the mealworms sprinkled throughout, I might have been tempted to try it myself. The girls devoured it, and I loved knowing it was full of healthy ingredients.
This cake is super easy, super fun, and super healthy—the perfect way to celebrate your flock’s birthday or any special occasion!
Until next time,
